Mexico: The Franciscan monk Antonio de Escaray preaches a sermon in the cathedral of Mexico City in which he blames the shortage and high price of grain on the Conde de Galve, whom he accuses of buying maize in the provinces, hoarding it, and selling it in the city at much higher prices. For many who hear it, this sermon only confirms their suspicions that the viceroy is profiting from his actions to counteract the grain shortage at the expense of the people.

New Mexico: Governor Vargas sends a letter to the Conde de Galve reporting on his successful expedition in March to discover the Apache salina, along with a sample of salt from the salina. He says he wishes he could send mercury instead, but for now this will have to do.
